Week one began with a conservation
to solidify our project idea for the spring term (Engineering 103). Some ideas thrown
around were bodywork batteries that could be utilized on electric vehicles,
polymer research, drone body materials, and technologically advanced asphalt
for road construction. Ultimately, we decided to proceed with researching and
analyzing the compound Pikrete. Deliberations on how we would launch our
investigation followed. These thoughts consumed the entire week and the details
are still going on.
Abstract
The objective of this project is to investigate the compound Pykrete. Pykrete is a combination of wood pulp with frozen water to create a concrete like substance hence the name “Pykrete.” Within the 10-week endeavor, we would like to further our knowledge of material science by exploring the strengths and weakness’s of different substances. And finally by researching, testing and analyzing, help those who seek it, a better understanding why compounds can provide a superior material to singular substances.
